Picturing Place Downtown
Thursdays, June 29th – August 3rd from 2:30-4:30 p.m.
at the Hillsdale Community Library

A series of 6 free photography workshops for youth in grades 5th- 8th.  With historic downtown Hillsdale as the subject, participants will learn ways that photographers document the spirit and identity of a place and they will explore vintage and handmade photographic technologies such as large format photography, panorama photography and stereoscopic photography.

Please bring a small camera.  All other materials and equipment provided.

The Amazing Camera Obscura!

Wednesday, July 12th from 3:00-4:30 p.m. at the Hillsdale Community Library
A single session workshop for K-5th grade youth that explores features of the very first cameras, how they worked and ways that we use the same technology today.  During the workshop, participants will also learn how to make their own origami camera obscura that they can take home.
All materials and equipment provided.

 

Sun Prints
Wednesday, July 26th from 3:00-4:30 p.m. at the Hillsdale Community Library
A single session workshop for K-5th grade youth that explores the historic cyanotype or sun print process.  Known for its signature prussian blue color, cyanotypes have been used by botanists to document plant structure and by architects to duplicate architectural drawings.  Workshop participants will be given several prepared sheets of cyanotype paper to make their own sun prints to take home.
All materials and equipment provided.
