Afghan Box Camera at HPS After School Workshop

Afghan Box Camera at HPS After School Workshop

Today was the first Delights of Seeing workshop at Hillsdale Prep.  The workshop introduced the Afghan box camera which is unique because it is both a camera and a darkroom all in one wood box.  It allowed students to see a photographic image appear on a paper negative in a tray of photo developer.

Students also discussed differences between optical illusions and visual metaphors while looking at two images by contemporary photographer Chema Madoz.

Next week’s workshop focuses on photographing moving subjects and the use of stop motion animation for flip books.
