Show time!

Our playroom has been transformed with Home Depot boxes converted into individual light studios!  Dash, our two year old asks, “Is it Show Time yet?” whenever he wants me to crank up the projector lights and illuminate the stack of boxes for his own creative play.

A little duct tape, some matte finish mylar, and lots of different artificial light sources create an enchanting environment for children to explore the physical properties of light and shadow and even color.  This activity was developed by Exploratorium’s (San Francisco Science Museum) Tinkering Studio.  More information can be found here… http://tinkering.exploratorium.edu/light-play.

I can’t wait to introduce “light play” to HPS students participating in the after school photography workshop.  We will be using this activity to explore ways that photographers use light, color and composition.
